It seems like every time you turn around there is a new product on the market to make your life easier. You could buy a million different products for cleaning, cooking, and family care, but why would you? There are products already in your home that are major multi-taskers. One of these household hacks is vinegar, and you won’t believe all of the ways you can use this simple solution! There is an entire website dedicated to the many uses of vinegar called, Vinegar Tips, and we’ve chosen the ten most useful (and shocking) tips of all.

1) Freshen a smelly lunchbox:

We remember to wash our dishes, but it’s easy to forget about that lunch box hidden in your child’s backpack! Even your kids’ favorite healthy lunches can leave odor behind, so place a vinegar-soaked slice of bread in it overnight to get rid of any icky smells.

2) Protect blonde hair from chlorine:

While swimming can be a great workout, summer trips to the pool can turn your blonde hair green, so rub 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar in your hair before swimming! Let the vinegar sit for 15 minutes then rinse as usual before heading to the pool.

3) Remove saucy stains:

Did your summer grill-out lead to a few stains on your favorite shirt? No need to toss it, jus mix white vinegar and water together, and wash that stain away.

4) Cure hiccups:

We’ve heard many different ways to cure hiccups, but never this one! A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar may be the answer to your prayers (and everyone else’s silence), the next time you’re having a hiccup fit.

5) Clean urine stains from a mattress:

Accidents happen, especially with little ones. If your mattress encounters a urine stain, wash the area with a white vinegar and water solution. Once you’ve soaked the area, sprinkle with baking soda and let dry, then brush or vacuum the debris.

6) Cut back the salty taste:

If you’ve accidentally added too much salt to a recipe, a spoonful of white vinegar and sugar can correct the flavor.

7) Preserve cut flowers:

Two tablespoons of white vinegar and one teaspoon of sugar per quart of water, can help your cut flowers live longer.

8) Prep your nails for polish:

Before you swipe on you favorite nail polish, clean your nails with a white vinegar-soaked cotton ball to remove oils.

9) Eliminate skunk odor from your pet:

If Fido got sprayed by a skunk, wash him down with a 50-50 mix of white vinegar and water followed by a good and thorough rinse.

10) Remove stains from plastic dishes:

We all have that one plastic container that is stained red from the leftovers of our favorite pasta, but there is a solution to this problem! Rub the container down with some distilled white vinegar, and stains will practically vanish before your eyes.

While there are a ton of green cleaning products we love, vinegar can do some serious multi-tasking. There are many types of vinegar, including white, apple cider, and balsamic, that have a variety of uses. What are some of your favorite uses for vinegar?
